Loafers are the IT girl shoe for 2024: Here’s where to buy the statement shoe

I’ve quietly watched from the sidelines as the high stiletto shoes of my youth faded into obscurity to be replaced with sneakers, mules and even sandals for a dressy event.

Whether it’s a night out, a wedding or extravagant birthday party, Gen Z is leading the charge on keeping things cool and comfortable in the shoe department and I couldn’t be more impressed by the idea.

But of late my Birkenclad-self has been admiring a new trend on the block: The humble loafer.

Chunky by nature loafers are often worn alongside a skirt or something equally as feminine to counteract the masculine boyishness of the low-heeled slip ons, and I’ve seen Hailey Bieber do this with aplomb.

So I’ve done some digging and found some of my favourites to invest in before the loafer trend hits fever pitch.

I already own a pair of Rollie Nation sneakers so I know that the brand lends itself to extreme comfort.

These all-black loafers with a refined buckle detail could be worn by themselves or with white socks peeking out the top for some added flair.

There are plenty of sizes still left in stock and they’re currently on sale, reduced by 30 per cent. What’s not to love?

While many of the most popular loafers will be black and made from leather these Novo Shoes are the perfect shade of cream.

These are a big throwback to 90s fashion in the best way with gold chain detailing on the patent finish.

There is plenty of grip on the sole so you can bust a move without fear of slipping so if the price and style is right for you, why wait?

With their stylish design and plush underfoot cushioning, the Beau shoes are the perfect combination of fashion and function.

They’re only on sale until midnight on January 2 so if you want to snag a deal, now is the time to do it.

I audibly gasped when I saw this pair of purple-brown loafers.

Made from the most deliciously soft leather they’d be the perfect accompaniment to denim or ankle-grazing trousers with a blazer.

I prefer brown leather to black sometimes for a softer look so these would definitely be on high rotation.

And for my final choice we’ve got a chunky leather loafer with more of a heel.

These loafers actually come in three different colours including nude patent if you’re looking for something lighter in tone.

The buckle at the front reminds me of a uniform in the most classic way but with the added height you can pair just about anything with them and shine.

These are also 30 per cent off for a limited time only.
